Mercury began working with TED in late 2011. Since then, I have led design for all of TED's Android efforts. My focus has been to find the clearest and most efficient way to highlight TED's content so people can quickly find the talks they are most interested in watching.
TED Android is fully localized for 22 languages and supports almost every Android device size, including a special design for the dual-screen Sony Tablet P from TED's 2012 launch partner. The app saw heavy promotion on Google Play and has been a mainstay at the top of the Education category. It was recognized by Google as one of Google Play's twelve best apps of 2012 and was called out again by the Android design team in the summer of 2013 along with ten other apps as an example of beautiful design on Google Play.
TED Android TV was one of five launch partner apps featured during Android TV's introduction this summer at Google I/O. During this time, I worked directly with Google developer advocate Maru Ahues on making sure the TED app met Google's standards for launch. Google also featured the app during their Android TV session, Android TV - A platform for the living room, at Google I/O.
TED Connect iPhone was originally designed and developed by MetaLab for the 2012 TED Conference. TED came to us to help adjust features based on attendee feedback from the 2012 conference and reevaluate and improve design for 2013.
